WHO WE ARE The New Jersey Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (NJAHSA) is the statewide association of not-for-profit senior care organizations and is dedicated to advancing quality aging services in New Jersey through advocacy, education and fellowship. Founded in 1931, NJAHSA and its members believe in affirming the enduring value of our elders to society, to family and to the community; promoting quality, stewardship and choice in aging services; advancing mission driven values, compassionate services and public trust; being accountable to those we serve; and developing ethical leadership. NJAHSA represents not-for-profit nursing homes, assisted living residences, residential health care centers, independent senior housing, and continuing care retirement communities throughout the entire state of New Jersey. NJAHSA serves over 135 member communities, many of which are supported through religious, fraternal and governmental sponsorship. In support of its mission, NJAHSA encourages collaboration with businesses, communities, state and local government, and other public and private entities also committed to enhancing quality of life for the senior citizens of New Jersey. NJAHSA is a state affiliate of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA). PREAMBLE The New Jersey Association of Homes and Services for the Aging is a statewide association of mission driven organizations dedicated to advancing quality aging services in New Jersey through education, advocacy and fellowship. As a diverse organization representing a broad range of providers and associate organizations, it has been determined that a Code of Ethics helps establish guidelines for behavior for the Board, Staff and Member organizations. CODE The Board, Staff and Members shall: Maintain high standards of professional competence in fulfillment of their individual responsibilities, which advance the mission of the Association. Exercise honesty and integrity in the execution of their duties Reach objective decisions that avoid conflicts of interest Seek to continually maintain and improve work-related knowledge, skills and competence Understand that to achieve positive outcomes we must care for those we work with and those we serve Embrace positive change and be open to creativity and new ideas Empower staff to exceed expectations and promote excellence, both internally and externally Seek to affirm the enduring value of our elders to society, to family and to the community Endeavor to conform with all laws and regulations that impact programs and services provided Promote quality, stewardship and choice in aging services Advance mission driven values, compassionate services and public trust Be accountable to those we serve Participate in the development of ethical leadership
